During this event, Dr. Claire Clibborn, European Medical Affairs Director at Sanofi Genzyme, talked about her experiences as a medical affairs director, why she transitioned from academia to medical affairs in industry, and the skills that the Medical Affairs industry values in life science PhD graduates.

30. April 2018 - Scientific communication and the link to industry

This time Dr. Simon Page, the Managing Director at Cambridge Medical Communication, spoke about providing consulting services to pharmaceutical companies to help share accurate, evidence-based information about medicines. Simon spoke about the different roles available in medical communication and highlighted opportunities available to life science graduates in an often overlooked industry.

13. March 2018 - Science Policy: Genetic Alliance UK and Rare Disease UK

We invited Dr. Jayne Spink, the Chief Executive Officer of Genetic Alliance UK and Chair of Rare Disease UK to speak about her work influencing scientific policy on rare genetic diseases. Jayne discussed working in scientific policy from a government and charity perspective, drawing from experiences throughout her illustrative career, and spoke about what it takes to successfully influence policy in the field.

For our first speaker event of the year, we hosted Dr Lee Booty, a Postdoctoral Fellow at GSK’s Immunology Catalyst. Lee talked about his experiences as a postdoc in academia and industry, shedding light on what the transition from academia to industry is like.
